Ever wondered what really slows down Windows?

Oli over at ThePCSpy has done what most of us have always pondered but never had the spirit to attempt: to quantify what *actually* slows Windows down.

His test took many hours and created some rather interesting results - no surprises for guessing Norton was the worst offender!

While his test doesn't cover everything (only a small list of major/common apps) and only covers Windows XP, it is a good indication of how fubared your system could be. While the test is a good indication, it only really focuses on boot times within Virtual machines (honestly, who has the time to benchmark fully after each app is installed, let alone 3 times per machine per app).

I'm sure Oli will be willing to run a version 2.0 experiment if enough of us submit good ideas on common apps he overlooked - but i'm fairly sure that testing all of these apps on Windows, then all of the similar apps on Linux, then on a Mac would be a bit much for our KittenAuth inspired friend.
